SUMMARY
This role will be responsible for providing HSE administrative support to the Brownsville plant, applicable distribution centers and the Westlake Pipe & Fittings team.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - May include, but are not limited to, the following:
Site Responsibilities:
- Manages site emergency response plan (master document and incident command structure) and updates plant SharePoint site as needed.
- Schedules and facilitates site annual audiograms, re-tests, STS, communicates results (in writing to employees).
- Documents and keeps records of emergency drills (fire, tornado, etc.).
- Keeps records for LOTO independent verifications and toolbox talk sign off sheets.
- Conducts HSE portion of New Hire Orientation.
- Schedules and facilitates all HSE related training for plant.
- Schedules and facilitates HSE orientation for distribution centers as needed.
- Administrates powered industrial truck safety management system (Crown Infolink).
- Supports site in implementation of HSE programs as needed (i.e. Safestart, Accident Prevention, Critical Rules).
- Supports Supervisors in the submission of workers compensation claims, coordinates return to work.
- Tracks completion of events in data management system and works with supervisors (or designee) to ensure entries and corrective actions are entered accurately.
- Maintain tracker for plant metrics (TSO’s, LOTO annual inspections, Safety Training, etc.) for QIP purposes.
- Submits monthly plant KPI report and quarterly score card with supporting documentation.
- Supports plant manager in monthly safety committee meetings.
- Completes monthly AED inspections (orders pads, replace battery, etc.).
- Maintain first aid room supplies and coordinates biohazard waste removal.
- Maintain plant OSHA log and submits annual report to Dept of Labor.
- Assists in HSE functions / recognition events for the plants (i.e., safety milestones, heat stress incentives: electrolyte packets, gifts).
- Maintains environmental records (i.e., waste streams, TIER II, SWPPP, SPCCC) and supports as needed for the plant.
Business Unit Responsibilities
- Up to 15% travel (or as needed) to support the plant and business unit.
- Attend meetings and seminars to assist in maintaining current safety policy compliance and in obtaining new ideas to implement more effective programs.
- Lead / Assist the business unit team with monitoring, tracking, reporting and recordkeeping.
- Analyze data from safety systems to create trend reports to share with the business unit.
- Maintain collaborative working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and managers within the business unit.
- Maintain regular attendance in accordance with company policy.
- Perform other duties as assigned to the satisfaction of the Sr HSE Specialist and the HSE Manager.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Qualifications: Associates degree in Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or Industrial Management preferred or 3+ years of experience in general industry safety and/or environmental management.
- Mathematics: Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.
- Ability to develop and present information in one-on-one and small group settings to plant leadership teams of the organization.
- Good computer skills with knowledge in Microsoft Office is required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The noise level in the work environment is usually high as normally based in a manufacturing plant. Some of the work may be required in the operating units which can require usage of required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, etc. May also result in exposure to outside elements and may require usage of stairs and elevators. Travel including air travel or auto travel may be required.
